About the China Visa Medical

The China Visa Medical, officially known as the Physical Examination for Foreigners, is required for non-EU nationals applying for a long-stay work visa, study visa, or residency permit in the People’s Republic of China. China requires this structured medical examination for any stay exceeding 180 days, and it must be completed using the official Chinese Health Examination Record form.

Why Is This Medical Required?

The Chinese authorities require this medical to ensure that all long-term visa holders and residents are free from specified infectious conditions and to establish a health baseline for immigration records. China uses its own official Health Examination Record form, and this must be obtained from the Chinese Embassy or your employer or educational institution before your appointment.

Eligible Visa and Permit Types

✔ Work Visa (Z Visa) for stays over six months

✔ Long-stay Study Visa (X1)

✔ Talent Visa

✔ Permanent Residence Application

What the Medical Assessment Includes

The China Physical Examination includes a full clinical physical examination covering all major body systems, including a cardiovascular assessment with a resting ECG, chest and respiratory examination, and abdominal examination. Blood tests screen for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B surface antigen, and Hepatitis C antibody. Where a Chest X-ray is required, a referral letter will be generated at your appointment so that you can take this to a private radiology department at a private hospital of your choice. The cost of the Chest X-ray is not included in the medical fee and typically ranges from £75 to £90 depending on the provider and location. Urinalysis and general health checks are included. The official Chinese Health Examination Record form will be completed in full at your appointment.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

✔ Valid passport

✔ The official Chinese Health Examination Record form (Jiankang      Jianchá Biao) obtained from the Chinese Embassy or your                employer before your appointment

✔ Passport-sized photographs

✔ Previous medical reports where relevant

Certificate Turnaround

Your final completed Health Examination Record will be issued once all laboratory blood test results and the Chest X-ray report have been received and confirmed as satisfactory. Certificate issuance is subject to all results being satisfactory. We will update you throughout the process.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) :

Do I need to bring a specific form?

Yes — China uses its own official Health Examination Record form. This must be obtained from the Chinese Embassy or your employer before your appointment. The form will be completed by our doctor during and after the examination.

Is the Chest X-ray mandatory for China?

Yes, a Chest X-ray is required for most Chinese long-stay visa applications. We will refer you to a local private radiology provider and the X-ray report will be incorporated into your completed Health Examination Record.

Is your doctor FCDO-registered?

Yes. Our examining doctor is FCDO-registered, which means he is legally authorised to attest and certify medical documentation for visa and immigration purposes in the United Kingdom. This is a key requirement for many visa applications, as the medical certificate may need to be submitted to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) for legalisation (apostille) before it is accepted by the relevant embassy or consulate. You can therefore be confident that any certificate we issue will meet the requirements of the embassy or immigration authority to which it is submitted.

How long will it take to receive my final medical certificate?

Your final medical certificate will be issued once all relevant investigation results have been received. This includes blood test results from the laboratory and, where applicable, the results of a Chest X-ray (CXR). Where a Chest X-ray is required, we will provide you with a referral letter at your appointment so that you can attend a private radiology department at a private hospital of your choice. The certificate can only be issued once all results have been confirmed as satisfactory. Turnaround times depend on the specific laboratory and radiology provider used. We will keep you informed and updated at every stage of the process and aim to issue your certificate as promptly as possible once all results are to hand.

Dr Anwar is exceptionally helpful and professional. In a very short period he provided an appointment , met with my family member and provided a supporting letter to bolster an application for exemption from the Life in The UK test. I will be recommending Cherries Medical in the future
