About the Spain Visa Medical
The Spain Long-Stay D Visa Medical is required for non-EU nationals applying for a national long-stay visa in Spain. This includes the increasingly popular Spain Digital Nomad Visa introduced under the Ley de Startups, the Non-Lucrative Residence Visa, employment visas, and family reunification visas. The Spanish Consulate requires a medical certificate confirming that the applicant does not have any condition that poses a public health risk.
Why Is This Medical Required?
The Spanish Consulate requires this medical certificate as part of the long-stay national visa application process. It is primarily a declaration from a qualified registered doctor confirming freedom from any disease with epidemic potential as defined by the World Health Organisation, and freedom from serious drug addiction. The certificate must be completed on the correct Spanish Consulate form, which should be downloaded from the Spanish Consulate website before your appointment.
Eligible Visa and Permit Types
✔ Non-Lucrative Residence Visa
✔ Employment and Work Visa
✔ Digital Nomad Visa (Ley de Startups)
✔ Golden Visa for investor residency
✔ Long-stay Student Visa
✔ Family Reunification Visa
What the Medical Assessment Includes
The Spain Long-Stay D Visa Medical includes a full clinical physical examination and an assessment confirming freedom from any disease with epidemic potential and freedom from serious drug addiction issues. The medical certificate will be completed on the official Spanish Consulate certificate form at your appointment. Blood tests and urinalysis are included where clinically indicated.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
✔ Valid passport
✔ Spanish Consulate medical certificate form — download this from the Spanish Consulate website before your appointment
✔ Passport-sized photographs
✔ GP medical summary or list of current medications
Certificate Turnaround
Your final completed medical certificate will be issued once all relevant results, where required, have been received and confirmed as satisfactory. For straightforward cases where no additional investigations are needed, the certificate can often be issued promptly following the appointment. We will keep you informed.
Pricing and Appointments
The price for this medical is available upon request as it varies depending on the specific investigations required, the visa type, and whether additional tests such as a Chest X-ray or extended blood panel are needed. Yes — the Spain Digital Nomad Visa introduced under the Ley de Startups requires a medical certificate from a qualified doctor as part of the application documentation.
Some Spanish long-stay visa applications require the medical certificate to be apostilled by the FCDO. As our doctor is FCDO-registered, certificates we issue can be submitted for FCDO legalisation. We will advise you on whether this is required for your specific application.
Yes. Our examining doctor is FCDO-registered, which means he is legally authorised to attest and certify medical documentation for visa and immigration purposes in the United Kingdom. This is a key requirement for many visa applications, as the medical certificate may need to be submitted to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) for legalisation (apostille) before it is accepted by the relevant embassy or consulate. You can therefore be confident that any certificate we issue will meet the requirements of the embassy or immigration authority to which it is submitted.
Your final medical certificate will be issued once all relevant investigation results have been received. This includes blood test results from the laboratory and, where applicable, the results of a Chest X-ray (CXR). Where a Chest X-ray is required, we will provide you with a referral letter at your appointment so that you can attend a private radiology department at a private hospital of your choice. The certificate can only be issued once all results have been confirmed as satisfactory. Turnaround times depend on the specific laboratory and radiology provider used. We will keep you informed and updated at every stage of the process and aim to issue your certificate as promptly as possible once all results are to hand.
