CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems)
The OEUK CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems) Bosiet Medical is designed to assess the fitness of a patient’s physical capacity to safely complete the in-water CA-EBS
exercise or training.
There can be a variety of offshore survival training courses that encompass CA-EBS training exercises such as the OPITO-approved BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training), FOET (Further Offshore Emergency Training) and HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) courses.
What does the medical involve?
The medical will be conducted at either of our two branches in Slough and Southampton. This involves:-
• A health questionnaire about respiratory, ear, nose and throat health.
• A lung health assessment with a spirometer.
• An in-depth ENT examination as well as further questions to assess suitability for training.
“Fit to Train” Medical
Whilst this ‘Fit to Train’ medical is required to ensure that physical capacity of the patient is suitable to allow them to undertake CA-EBS exercises; if somebody was deemed to be
medically unfit in water, then a dry version of the CA-EBS training could still be completed.
A dry CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System) training would normally then be held in a classroom-based setting where the offshore personnel would be taught the knowledge and skill required in emergency situations such as helicopter evacuation. Therefore there would be no practical element to this training unlike conventional wet CA-EBS training.
Our CA-EBS certificates have an expiry date of 2 years to allow it to align with the OEUK Offshore Energies Medical renewal.
However the time duration in which a renewal for CA-EBS training is required ultimately depends on the employing company’s guidelines.
