BFSAI Falkland Islands Medical From £400+
BFSAI (British Forces South Atlantic Islands) medical
Cherries Medical Clinic completes the BFSAI (British Forces South Atlantic Islands) medical for civilian contractors, Ministry of Defence-connected staff and others travelling to work in the Falkland Islands. We carry out the full examination and blood tests, and complete and sign the BFSAI medical form for you.
What does the BFSAI medical include?
Measurements
• Height, weight and BMI
• Pulse rate and blood pressure
Vision
• Visual acuity, with and without glasses (Snellen)
• Eye, fundal and colour vision check
Clinical examination
• General appearance
• Cardiovascular, including heart sounds, pulse rhythm and peripheral pulses
• Respiratory
• Ear, nose and throat, including hearing
• Abdominal and genitourinary
• Neurological
• Musculoskeletal
• Skin and lymph nodes
• Mental health (psychiatric status)
• Breast examination (women over 45 only)
• Evidence of drug use
Urinalysis
• Urine dipstick in clinic. If the dipstick shows any abnormality, a full laboratory urinalysis is required and charged separately.
Laboratory tests
• Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV screen
• Syphilis (treponemal serology)
• Renal function (including creatinine)
• Full blood count
• HbA1c (diabetes screen)
Chest X-ray
A chest X-ray is not required in most cases, but this depends on your individual circumstances. If one is needed, we will give you a referral letter for the radiology department of any private hospital. A private chest X-ray typically costs £120 to £160, payable directly to the hospital.
Preparing for your appointment
Please bring:
• Passport or photo driving licence
• A printed copy of your BFSAI medical form
• A list of your current medicines, and any recent medical letters or reports
• Your glasses or contact lenses, if you wear them
Before your appointment:
• Please drink plenty of clear fluids such as water. You do not need to fast.
How the medical works and what it costs
Your appointment covers the full examination, the urine dipstick and your blood samples. Once your results are back, the doctor completes and signs your BFSAI medical form, and all documents are emailed back to you.
Doctor’s fee: £150 (includes form completion, physical examination and blood taking)
Laboratory tests: your blood samples are processed by our partner laboratory, and the laboratory fees are charged in addition to the doctor’s fee. We are currently seeking more competitive prices from our laboratory partners, so please contact us for the latest laboratory fees before booking.
Prefer to arrange your own blood tests? We can provide a referral letter so you can have them done privately elsewhere. The results will need to be emailed to us at info@cherriesmedicalclinic.co.uk before the final sign-off.
