Certified Qatar Energy LNG Onshore New Starter Medicals
Cherries Medical Clinic carries out the QatarEnergy LNG (formerly Qatargas) onshore medical for new employees starting with QatarEnergy LNG, and completes the company’s medical proforma on your behalf.
Although this is an onshore role, QatarEnergy LNG’s requirements for new starters are the same as for its offshore medical. This means the same full examination, the same full set of blood tests and a chest X-ray. If you are not a new starter, please see our standard Qatar Energy LNG Onshore Medical page instead.
We have completed numerous QatarEnergy LNG medicals for both offshore and onshore personnel, and we are familiar with QatarEnergy LNG’s pre-employment medical requirements. Most candidates receive their signed medical with a quick turnaround, helping them meet their mobilisation dates without delay.
What does the QatarEnergy LNG onshore new starter medical include?
The medical involves completing the QatarEnergy LNG medical proforma, together with the following:
Clinical examination and tests
• Blood pressure and heart rate
• Height and weight
• Colour vision (Ishihara)
• Visual acuity (Snellen)
• Spirometry (lung function)
• Audiometry (hearing test)
• 12-lead ECG
• Full systems examination, including cardiovascular, respiratory, and head and neck
• Fitness test (estimated VO2 max) by Chester Step Test, if required by the medical proforma issued by the QatarEnergy LNG Medical Department
Laboratory tests
• Blood group
• Fasting blood glucose
• Full blood count
• Lipid profile (cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides)
• Liver function (ALT, AST, GGT)
• Urinalysis (routine and microscopy)
Imaging
• Chest X-ray (required for all new starters). This is mainly to rule out active tuberculosis (TB). At your first appointment we will give you a referral letter, which you can take to the radiology department of any private hospital.
Please ask the radiology department to:
• take a PA (posteroanterior) view chest X-ray
• email the X-ray image (ideally as a JPEG) and the radiology report to info@cherriesmedicalclinic.co.uk
A private chest X-ray typically costs £120 to £160, payable directly to the hospital.
Extra tests depending on your role or age
• Fitness test by Chester Step Test: high-effort roles such as firefighter, driver, emergency response, diver, security, confined space work and marine pilot, and anyone aged over 60
• Stool test: food handlers and laundry staff
• Romberg test (balance and coordination): work at height and tower crane operators
• Epilepsy assessment: tower crane operators, work at height and HGV drivers
• Thyroid function test: radiation workers
• Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis (RPR) screening: healthcare workers
These extra tests are charged separately. We will confirm the cost when you book.
Please note: QatarEnergy LNG occasionally issues different versions of its medical form, and these can require additional tests, so the total cost may vary. Preparing for your appointment
Please bring:
• Passport or photo driving licence
• A printed copy of the latest QatarEnergy LNG medical form
• A list of your current medicines, and any recent medical letters or reports
• Your glasses or contact lenses, if you wear them
Before your appointment:
• Fast for 8 to 10 hours beforehand for the blood tests. Please drink plenty of clear fluids such as water, but no coffee.
• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours beforehand.
• Wear comfortable clothing and trainers for the Chester Step Test.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations
We do not provide vaccinations. For work visa and residency purposes in Qatar, you should be up to date with Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and tetanus vaccines. Your GP or a travel clinic can advise and vaccinate.
Tetanus: most people who grew up in the UK received tetanus vaccines as part of the childhood immunisation schedule. If your last dose was more than 10 years ago, a booster is usually advised before working abroad.
Hepatitis B: you may already be vaccinated if you are a healthcare worker, your job involves needles or sharps, or you have had travel vaccines for parts of Asia or Africa.
Hepatitis A: most people have not had this unless they received it as a travel vaccine. It is required for food handlers and strongly recommended for anyone moving to Qatar for work or residency.
How the medical works and what it costs
Your medical takes approximately 90 minutes. It covers the full examination and all the in-clinic tests listed above. We also take your blood and urine samples, produce your ECG report and spirometry graph, and give you your chest X-ray referral letter.
We aim to receive your laboratory results within 48 to 72 hours. Once we have your chest X-ray report and image, the doctor completes the final sign-off. Every page of your medical is signed and stamped as required by QatarEnergy LNG, and all documents are emailed back to you.
Doctor’s fee: £350
Laboratory tests: your blood and urine samples are processed by our partner laboratory, and the laboratory fees are charged in addition to the doctor’s fee. We are currently seeking more competitive prices from our laboratory partners, so please contact us for the latest laboratory fees before booking.
Prefer to arrange your own blood tests? We can provide a referral letter so you can have them done privately elsewhere. The results will need to be emailed to us at info@cherriesmedicalclinic.co.uk before the final sign-off.
