What Is the North Oil Company Qatar Medical?
Cherries Medical Clinic provides medical fitness assessments for personnel deploying with North Oil Company (NOC) Qatar, one of the major offshore oil and gas operators in the State of Qatar. All assessments are conducted in accordance with the NOC Fitness to Work standard (SD-NOC-HIH 018, Rev. 05, effective July 2024) by our GMC-registered GP and Occupational Health Physician.
North Oil Company requires all personnel working offshore or in remote onshore operations in Qatar to hold a valid medical fitness certificate confirming their suitability to work safely in demanding offshore or remote conditions.
What the Examination Covers
The examination follows the official NOC Medical Examination Form (Attachment 3 of the NOC Fitness to Work standard) and is a thorough, structured assessment covering all major body systems. The head, eyes, and pupils, the ears, nose and throat, and the teeth are all assessed. The spine, cardiovascular system (including blood pressure and pulse), and respiratory system (including spirometry with FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC ratio) will all be examined. The abdomen, hernial orifices, extremities, and musculoskeletal system (including gross power assessment) are
included, as are the skin, varicose veins, and neurological system. Vision is assessed for distance, near, and colour vision as well as VDU suitability.
Special Investigations
In addition to the clinical examination, a number of special investigations are carried out as clinically indicated and in accordance with the NOC protocol. These include an audiogram (hearing test, compared to previous results where available), spirometry (lung function testing), and a resting twelve-lead ECG. A Chest X-ray (CXR) is arranged via referral where clinically indicated — a referral letter will be generated at your appointment so that you can take this to a private radiology department at a private hospital of your choice. The Chest X-ray cost is not included in the medical fee and typically ranges from £75 to £90 depending on the provider and location. VO2 Max testing and the Chester Step Test are included to assess cardiovascular fitness, and the Cardiac Stress Test using the Bruce Protocol Treadmill Test (TMT) is performed where indicated. Laboratory blood tests including a full blood count, biochemistry, and infectious disease screening are included, as is urinalysis
Immunisation Status
The NOC medical form requires a full review of your immunisation status. You will be asked about your vaccination history for BCG, MMR, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Yellow Fever, DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis), Polio, Typhoid, Meningococcal, and your date of last COVID-19 vaccination. Please bring your vaccination records or a GP immunisation summary to your appointment.
Health Monitoring and Medical Surveillance
Where any condition is identified during the assessment, the NOC medical form requires appropriate health monitoring to be recommended. Conditions that trigger surveillance requirements include hypertension, diabetes or impaired fasting blood sugar, asthma, obesity or BMI concerns, lipid disorders, cardiovascular disorder identified on ECG, respiratory disorder, kidney or liver disorder, mental disorder, skin disorder, hearing conservation needs, and vision correction requirements.
Certification Outcomes
Following the assessment, one of the following fitness status outcomes will be recorded on the form: Fit for Work as per NOC guidelines (with unrestricted offshore or remote work confirmed), Fit with Restrictions (where specific stated restrictions apply), Temporarily Unfit for Current Work, or Permanently Unfit for Current Work. In cases where the fitness status cannot be finalised
immediately — for example, where a Chest X-ray result or specialist report is pending — the form will record the reason for the delay and the expected date of resolution. The certificate is valid for two years from the date of examination in accordance with NOC guidelines.

What if a Chest X-ray is required?
Where a Chest X-ray is clinically indicated, we will refer you to a local private radiology provider. Once the result is received and confirmed as satisfactory, we will complete your certificate and issue your fitness status. The fitness status is recorded as pending on the NOC form until the result is confirmed — this is a standard part of the NOC process and is clearly documented on the form.
Can you liaise directly with my employer or the NOC HR team?
Yes. We are experienced in working with energy sector employers and can coordinate directly with your company’s medical coordinator or HR team where required. Please let us know at the time of booking if direct liaison is needed.
How long is the certificate valid for?
The NOC medical fitness certificate is valid for two years from the date of examination, in accordance with the NOC Fitness to Work standard.
