The medical requirements would vary depending on the individual criteria for each marathon. However, this would usually entail a physical examination check of blood pressure, height, weight, oxygen saturation levels, heart rate, respiratory rate, chest auscultation for heart sounds and lung sounds, together with an ENT examination, neuromuscular examination and urinalysis.

The vast majority of marathon medicals now require a medical certificate to ensure that you are fit enough to potentially meet the demands of the race.

Please note that the fee for the medical is £80 but if an ECG is mandatory or the doctor advises that this is necessary given a current co-existing medical condition, then this would be an additional £20 taking the total to £100 ONLY.
